Our Story
Zoe Bertoia and Carissa Martin created Studio Seaside in the summer of 2009 in Corona del Mar, California. The two young moms imagined a place where women could work out while their children were nearby in a safe, loving childcare environment. The idea took off, and today Studio Seaside is that place, and more. It has become a true community that connects moms, children and families.
Back in 2005, Zoe Bertoia was operating Stroller Strides franchises in Southern California and Vancouver, Canada. Those classes appealed to women because they offered them the opportunity to exercise outdoors with their children and to build new and lasting friendships. Many of these women were recent stay-at-home moms who had given up rewarding careers, and they were searching for connections, conversations and advice.
Soon, everyone’s kids were growing out of their jogger strollers, but people still wanted to work out and stay connected with friends. The studio concept was born out of this demand. The loyal group of “stroller moms” embraced the idea of Studio Seaside and helped build the community that thrives today. Originally, Studio Seaside offered yoga, Pilates and dance with on-site childcare. Today, moms choose from indoor and outdoor classes – yoga, Pilates, dance, boot camp, stroller, stretching, strength, and running. Dance, art, yoga and language classes are also available for kids. The studio environment and class options motivate moms to continue coming back as they have new babies and their children grow up. Today Zoe continues to grow Studio Seaside into an important, inspiring part of the fitness industry.
