How to Stop Clients from Ghosting You

The excitement rises as you start to get emails from people that are interested in your services! The worst feeling? When you’re meant with disappointment when those people ghost you. It can be very frustrating and discouraging when you have spent the time meeting with potential clients for them to ghost you, never to be heard from again. So how do you stop potential clients from ghosting you? Here are some things to keep in mind when you get ghosted by a potential client!

Embarrassed

The most important reminder when a potential client ghosts you is to not take it personally! One of the most common reasons why you might be ghosted is that they might be too embarrassed to admit that they can not afford your services. You’ll receive many different types of people that will inquire about your services and one of those people may be people that aren’t well versed in the reality of the costs of your services. Instead of admitting that they can not afford the services, it’s easier for them to ghost.

Following Up

Even if they do ghost you, don’t forget to do your due diligence to follow up! People are busy and inboxes can easily get filled up. It could be that you are unintentionally getting ghosted because people forget to respond back to your email due to their busy schedules. There is no harm in following up with a potential client that may still be interested.

Spam Folders

Potential clients could also be unintentionally ghosting you due to your email being sent to the spam inbox. Sometimes that happens and communication can literally get lost.

Do your documents make sense?

Speaking of communication, does your contract or proposal make sense to them? You want to have documents that makes sense to your ideal client and have information presented in a digestible format. At times contracts and proposals can seem too complex where the potential client doesn’t even have the motivation to read through the documents anymore. This could turn your potential clients off, so you want to have documents that are easy to understand to help move the process forward.

Do they understand your value proposition?

In the world that we live in today, you’re most likely not a monopoly and the only one offering your services. A potential client could ghost you because they decided to go with a different designer instead. As a business owner, it’s important for you to make sure that your services and pricing are competitive and that they understand the value that you are providing them. You want to be seen as the professional expert in your field and that potential clients can fully understand the value and solutions you are offering to them. Make sure your value proposition stands out!

Trust

Trust is so important when it comes to running your business. There could be hesitation to move forward with your services because they don’t fully trust you or your skills yet. A great way to overcome this is to be able to provide testimonials or portfolios to build that trust. By providing these information, they are able to visualize and understand the work that you can give them.

They’re Just Not Ready

Sometimes they are just not ready and that’s okay! It could be possible that potential clients are searching for information on your services for the future and to better understand the needs that they have for themselves. A ghost or a rejection now can be potential business in the future, so this is another great reason why it’s great to follow up down the line to anyone that has ever shown interest. They could be ready for your services later on.

Being ghosted by a potential client isn’t the end of the world but it can definitely be frustrating and discouraging! Hopefully keeping these things in mind and following these best practices will help mitigate them from ghosting you. If a potential client does ghost you forever, then remember that they are not your ideal client anyway and there are tons of ideal clients waiting for you to help them.
