SEO Best Practices for Squarespace
Note: This blog post contains affiliate links, however, I only recommend brands that I use and love.
Developing an SEO-rich website used to be a ‘hack’ but is now essential for your business. Today, it is more of a necessity as more and more people are learning how to add and improve SEO elements that can push your website farther and farther away from the main page and plunge you into the depths of the masses. Luckily, Squarespace makes it relatively easy to add in SEO content, and here are a few of my top tips to keep your website up to date.
Squarespace has a few built-in SEO boosting properties that are important to note: Mobile-friendly, Clean HTML and URLs, Built-in Meta Tags, Sitemaps, and SSL Certificates. If you want to better understand these, click here.
To better your own website outside of what Squarespace is already doing, you can:
Focus on high-quality content
Including content rich in quality and something that caters directly to what your potential customers would be searching for is an essential and relatively simple first step. Go in-depth, describe, keep your wording as natural as possible and focus on the QUALITY as opposed to an overload of quantity.
Add title tags
These are magic when it comes to search engines. In order to change your title tag, hover over a page and click the settings icon, then just click on the SEO tab to make changes. Focus on titles that are short, include keywords and flow.
Get good pictures
When building the photography on your website, do not settle for the mediocre hoping that nobody will notice or care - they will. And Google will too. If your images are not high quality and do not load quickly, your website is deemed less worthy of a higher ranking and you will fall behind. Learning how to compress your images will really help.
Add links
If you have a blog post or web page internally that would be helpful to link directly to, add it. It will help your customers get where they need to be faster and help you with your web ranking.
Keep up the blog
Blogging is one of THE best strategies to boost your SEO. Not only does it keep your site relevant and up to date, but it is easily shareable on other social media sites, it allows for more keyword optimization and it is more appealing to potential customers to read blog posts.
