How to Pick the Best Squarespace Template
Note: This blog post contains affiliate links, however, I only recommend brands that I use and love.
Squarespace is the holy grail of both big and small businesses alike. The ability to have your website up and running almost instantly is a concept all but dreamed of back in the days of coding and computer science. Despite its wide range universal approach, it also has the ability to be very customizable - you need only start by selecting a template!
How to determine which version of Squarespace is right for you
You may not even be aware that there are two different versions of Squarespace: 7 and 7.1. While they are not THAT different, there are a few key design differences that you may want to consider before just diving into the ‘newer’ version! You may not have a preference towards one or the other at the moment, but as you begin to review templates, you will realize that 7.1 only has one universal template, while the previous version allows you to select whichever one you prefer!
Browsing templates
Once you decide which version of Squarespace you prefer, you will be prompted to select a template. Squarespace has divided the templates into separate categories making it easier to narrow down which design you prefer based on what ~vibe~ you are looking for your website to have.
Take your time in this stage, but don’t stress about picking the perfect one immediately - no matter what stage you're at in your website design you can switch to a different one, but you want to do so before getting too far into your design process or it could be a difficult and time-consuming swap!
Review layouts
When selecting your template, try to look beyond the content of the website and take a look at how it is laid out and displayed.
Maybe the sample template features a restaurant and while your business is not a restaurant, the layout of that particular template may work perfectly for your business needs and wants!
Take a look at different views
With each template you select, consider mobile versions or tablet views. This can be helpful with your decision making.
Mobile design is crucial since most people view content on their smartphones or on the go before potentially following up online later on. If the template does not have a solid mobile design, I would just scratch it!
Make your decision and go with it
Once you decide what you want - just go with it. Remember that you can always change your mind, but give the template a go with your customizations and content and see what happens!
With most templates, you can use custom code and other elements to really make the template yours and turn it into something that you truly love!
